DOES DECLUTTERING = WEIGHT LOSS?

Have you ever wondered if clutter is the cause of healthy eating habits?

Many people have some kind of clutter here or there.  In fact, as you read this article, you are probably thinking to yourself, where the clutter is, and how you have been meaning to get to it.  For me personally,  clutter "did not bother me".  I am like my dad, stuff could be everywhere but "I know where it is".   Well, this is what I told myself.

People think that clutter is an energy drain.   I will have to stop what I am doing to put all this away and organize it, so in return, it doesn't get done.  You can WASTE more time looking for your items that you can't find then actually putting things in place.

How does any of this correlate to weight loss?

For most of us, STRESS is a fact of life. Unfortunately, research reveals that it's also a fact of fat. "Even if you usually eat well and exercise, chronic high stress can prevent you from losing weight—or even add pounds," says Pamela Peeke, MD, author of Body for Life for Women.

When the stress hormone Cortisol rises, so can your eating habits.  This is where you begin to overeat or binge.  The increase in Cortisol also causes higher insulin levels which makes your blood sugar drop and now you crave sugary, fatty foods.

The brain is a powerful thing and we as humans are able to cope with different stimulus and situations due to how we handle stress via the brain.

Most homes are now open floor plans.  When you walk into your house, do you relax, throw on some music and cook a nice healthy meal?  Or do you walk into your house, see no counter space and then walk back out to grab something on the go?   This is where it can make or break a healthy lifestyle.

Tips for decluttering:  Create some positive Chi

  1.  Ask yourself "Does this bring me Joy" if not, get rid of it.
  2. Keep a schedule -  Block out the time and do it.
  3.  Put things away - If it takes 30 seconds to do then do it immediately- Rule of thumb!
  4. If you bring something in, Get rid of something
  5. Do a light cleaning at the end of every day
  6. Do a thorough cleaning once a week
  7. Have people over - 99% of the time, you are cleaning to have guest.
